THE LÜCHOW FAMILY

genealogical table #2 (Lüchow burgher line)

Joachim Friedrich Witting (1657 – 1717) stayed in Lüchow and was - like his father and grandfather before - burgher smith and brewer. This family tradition continues at least for seven Generations. I have no further information about the Lüchow family line after the year 1901 so it is probable extinct.
Very exciting is Johann Christoph Witting's (* 1761) fate - he came to America in the english army as a soldier, was taken prisoner by the colonists at Saratoga in 1777. After the close of the war he settled in Rensselaerwyk, Albany county and taught school. It is reasonable to assume that he was identical with the reverend John Christopher Wieting [sic!]. However it looks to be too much of a coincident should it not be him. Wieting was married twice and had 14 children.
